Day 1

Red rock canyon

This is the first in the series about our family friendly road trip from Las Vegas to surrounding areas. If you are planning a road trip based out of Las Vegas, check out how we took a multigenerational National Parks trip in February! In this post, I discuss 6 tips for flying with young kids and share some incredible images from our first stop at Red Rock Canyon.

For families with young children, flying can be intimidating, which is why I’m sharing my top 6 tips for flying with little kids! With these tips, you can feel empowered to take your own family vacation and fly with confidence.

6 Tips for Flying with Young Kids:

  1. Prep your kids.
    • Tell them exactly what to expect, watch videos of kids flying, get them involved in packing bags and counting down the days!
  2. SNACKS
    • Bring more than you need. And bring the good stuff!
  3. Special toys/screen time
    • We took a special trip to the thrift store to get some plane toys and books. Our oldest got the very special treat of screen time on the plane.
  4. Check what baby gear is allowed on the flight and pack accordingly.
    • We brought a car seat for our 20mo old to use on the plane and carried him in a Deuter Kid Comfort III, which fit above our seats. We checked one bag, which was helpful for not needing to haul so many rolling suitcases.
  5. Board first with baby gear, but bring babies on LAST
    • This was made possible by my husband and dad, but it was definitely nice to not be squished on the plane with two little guys for longer than necessary.
  6. Relax!
    • For real. Everyone was a kid once and lots of people have kids. Everyone we met was kind and helpful. Your kids will feed off your energy, so make sure it’s calm and flexible!
Red Rock Canyon

This was our first trip flying with our kids, which was both exciting and terrifying. When a cheap flight to Las Vegas popped up in my inbox (thanks, #Going), I couldn’t pass it up. We brought my dad along, too, which was a special treat for all of us.

Once we arrived in Vegas, we got our rental car, grabbed breakfast, and then headed for the beautiful Red Rock Canyon. It was gorgeous! I hope you enjoy some of these breathtaking views!

Warmly,
