I very rarely do senior photo sessions (I’m more of a family photographer), so I was excited when my cousin, Karis, reached out! I had taken her brother’s senior photos several years ago when they lived in Colorado Springs (seriously epic session) and my Aunt and Uncle invited us to visit. Now they live in Ohio (yay for being closer!) but Karis wanted the same epic feel -well, really, she just wanted to not feel like she was taking photos in a cornfield 😂
We decided to meet at John Bryan State Park for a golden hour session, but nature had another idea: RAIN
When we pulled into the park, it was dark, soggy, and empty. I knew this could be a challenge; but it could also be amazing!
Our light was fading fast, but we were so ready. Karis wanted a fun vibe without feeling too posed and I think we made that happen. Karis is such a lovely young woman; full of adventure and kindness. She is an athlete and a musician and just fun to be around!
When we visited Colorado Springs many years ago, she took us on a “quick hike.” I was 14 week pregnant and we were scrambling over cliffsides and I was seriously in awe of this kid who made it all look easy. She even told us we were “pretty good hikers for flatlanders” 🤣
I’m still in awe of Karis. Truthfully, the whole family is the stuff of legends! Karis is bold and confident and brilliant. Whatever she decides to do, she will succeed, make it look easy, and still be gracious about it.
One of my favorite facts about this senior session is that Karis will be graduating from the same high school that our grandfather did! She brought his class ring and picture as a beautiful tribute. I love this piece of history!
Despite the rain, Karis was a great sport about it all and has such a wonderful positive attitude. I’m so glad she trusted my vision because these images are definitely epic!
